I was asked recently: “What are my qualifications to be a State Representative?” The legal qualifications for running for State Rep.in PA are:
- – Older than 21 years
- – 4 years as a PA resident
- – 1 year resident in your district
I definitely meet those requirements.
I do not have a law or political science degree, but it’s the lawyers and career politicians who are leading us off a cliff.
I worked for 30 years as a blue-collar tradesman, and the last 11 in a white-collar position. When I applied for my current job it required a bachelor’s degree or “Equivalent Life Experience”. That is my qualification.
I have worked hard since I was 12 years old delivering the Post- Gazette on my bicycle at 5 AM. I went to a technical school and spent some time in college. I worked 28 years in the commercial refrigeration industry as a union Steamfitter, and the last 11 as a project manager and account manager in a global corporation.
I have lived in both Allegheny and Washington Counties. I was on the School Board and Republican Committee in Brentwood, and I serve on the Republican Committee in Peters Township now.
I have been married for 30 years and raised 3 children. I’ve been a coach, assistant, trainer, shoulder to cry on, and biggest fan.
I built the house we live in with my own hands just like my father and grandfather did.
I’ve gone on mission trips to West Virginia, Tennessee, and Chame, Panama.
My “equivalent life experience” allows me to relate to just about everyone I meet. I did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth. I have walked in the same shoes as most of the people I represent. I think that more than qualifies me to be a State Representative in the 40 th District.
